I am being a bit nosy here but If you don't mind me asking what are those of you that do repair work charging for basic refet job? I am getting $200 for unbound fretboards and $225 for edge bound fretboards. If the fretboard has inlay that lies under the fert I quote based on what I feel the liability and likly hood of damaging the inlay may be. I really shy away from this type if refret job.MichaelP38456.6089583333

down here in the mountains my overheads are low so i only charge $175 for unbound but go up to $225 for bound boards.

i don't don't think that your unbound-bound price differential reflects the extra time and risk involved.

don't see many inlaid boards (probably half my repair work or more is martin d28's). but like you i try to cover the extra risk and that depends on the intricacy of the inlay.

Sounds good, Michael.
Actually, a bit more than I get. But you know I give my work away.

I charge $250 for a basic fret ( my Deluxe)and $350 for the Super Deluxe. What's the difference...How much time I spend on the fret ends and buffing the frets. On the Super I also use Erlewine's neck jig so I can get a super low action. Both are "base" prices and if the job looks like I might have some "problems" or extra time in on it ( like the fender maple necks - lacquer) then I add on another $50 or so.

For a guitar my price ranges from about $250 to $375 for standard
fret jobs. That's about average for the Boston area and assumes the
fingerboard is in good shape and the relief is okay (no truss rod) or
within adjustable range.
